Thanh Pagoda
Thanh Pagoda
Thanh Pagoda is an ancient pagoda located on Hung Vuong Street, Luong Van Tri Ward, Lang Son province, Viet Nam. Previously situated next to the Lang Son Citadel in Mai Pha - Chau On, it was founded by local people around the 15th century (during the Le Dynasty). At that time, the pagoda was called Huong Lam Pagoda, but because it was next to the Citadel, the locals commonly called it Thanh Pagoda. In 1796, during the reign of King Canh Thinh, the pagoda was moved to its current location (about 200m the old site) and renamed Dien Khanh Tu.
Rectangle-within-a-rectangle layout
Thanh Pagoda is an architectural complex built in the "Rectangle-within-a-rectangle layout" style. The outermost gate is the Tam Quan (three-arched gate), facing west, built in a two-story, eight-roofed style, topped with a "Two Dragons Worshipping the Sun" motif. Inside the Tam Quan are the main hall, pavilion, main hall, and rear hall... To the right, across a small courtyard, are the Ancestor's House and the Mother Goddess Shrine.
