Nhi Thanh Cave – “The Flow of Knowledge in the Heart of the Mountain”
Nhi Thanh Cave in Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark (Tam Thanh Ward, Lang Son province, Vietnam) along with the Tam Thanh limestone mountain range, has a structure that extends deep the mountain with many nooks and crannies, creating a mysterious and fascinating space for exploration. It is associated with the famous figure Ngo Thi Sy – who discovered, restored, and many poems inscribed on the cave walls. The Ngoc Tuyen stream, over 600 meters long, flows through the cave, forming a small waterfall in Nhat Bich Tri pond, a testament to the ongoing geological process.
To the right of Nhi Thanh Cave is Tam Giao Pagoda, built by Ngo Thi Sy in the year Ky Hoi (1779), dedicated to Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Currently, besides Tam Giao Pagoda, the temple complex includes other shrines such as the general altar of all Deities, the altar of Three Mother Goddesses, the altar of Mountain Deities, and the Three Jewels Shrine… with many rich statues.
Tam Giao Pagoda can be said to be a unique temple in terms of architecture. The pagoda brings spiritual and cultural value and is one of the eight beautiful sights of Lang Son province. Notably, this site simultaneously houses the worship of three religions: Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
Today, this historical site also features a system of stone inscriptions carved the rock walls by famous figures and poets various periods who visited the temple. These are invaluable historical sources and literary works.
The Nhi Thanh – Tam Giao Temple festival takes place the 15th to the 17th of the first lunar month each year, featuring many unique traditional rituals and customs of the people in Lang Son province.
