Management Board of Lang Son Geopark worked with Minh Khai Primary School on school projects in Lang Son Geopark in 2023
On the afternoon of December 21st, 2022, the Management Board of Lang Son Geopark worked with Minh Khai Primary School on school projects in Lang Son Geopark in 2023. Attending and chairing the meeting was Mrs. Pham Thi Huong, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Lang Son; officials of the Management Board; Mrs. Pham Thi Tham, Principal of Minh Khai Primary School; Board of Directors; representatives of teachers; students who won prizes at the Contest about Geo-Heritage and Lang Son Geopark in 2022 (the Contest).
At the meeting, Mrs. Pham Thi Huong summarized the results of public awareness raising activities in schools of the Management Board of Lang Son Geopark in 2022; introducing Lang Son Geopark and UNESCO Global Geoparks. She highly appreciated the efforts of Minh Khai Primary School at the Contest; thereby contributing to building and developing Lang Son Geopark towards being recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark. A student introduced the idea of community projects in Lang Son Geopark in 2023 such as establishing Then Singing Club, Lion Cat Dancing Club at the school; project to create space for Lang Son Geopark in the Green Library of the school; project of branding Lang Son Geopark souvenirs made pebblestone and so on.
On the basis of the project proposals, the participants discussed and agreed to support the Model of building the Then Singing Club and the Lion Cat Dancing Club at the school, contributing to preserving and promoting t hen singing of the Tay and the Nung ethnic groups - a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage of humanity as well as the cultural value of folk performances of Lion Cat dancing in Lang Son province in general and in Binh Gia district in particular; considering to create the space for Lang Son Geopark at the school's Green Library in order to raise awareness and understanding of students at the school and people in Minh Khai commune about Lang Son Geopark. Moreover, this is also considered as a model for students to practice the roleplay of a tour guide about Lang Son Geopark to people and delegates visiting the school on special occasions. In particular, the project of branding Lang Son Geopark souvenirs made pebblestone received the attention of delegates and students, promising to contribute to a variety of handmade souvenirs in Lang Son Geopark, creating income for schoolchildren on weekends and summer vacations as well as creating livelihoods for local people when the product's brand is successfully built.
Working activities with high schools, secondary schools and primary schools in the Geopark area is under the plan of the Management Board of Lang Son Geopark to survey the status of heritage and tourist sites and working with relevant agencies and units in the Geopark area. The activity has well received the attention and coordination of schools and agencies in Lang Son Geopark.
