AnOnline EnglishForum in response to International Geodiversity Day launched by UNESCO Global Geoparks Network

On October 6, 2022, Lang Son Geopark Management Board coordinated with People's Committees of districts: Bac Son, Binh Gia, Chi Lang, Huu Lung, and Van Quan to organize an Online English Forum in response to "International Geodiversity Day – 6 October) launched by UNESCO Global Geoparks Network”. Attending the Forum were Leaders and Officials of Lang Son Geopark Management Board; Advisory Groups on theconstruction and development of Lang Son Geopark fromBac Son, Binh Gia, Chi Lang, Huu Lung, Van Quan districts and youth groups of districts in Lang SonGeopark region. This is an activity within the framework of the joint program to deploy propaganda and education activities about Geoparks in the 2022 - 2025 period between the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committees of districts in Lang Son Geopark.

At the Forum, the delegates watched Video Clips: Lang Son Geopark, Geodiversity: Biodiversity's Silent Partner and International Geodiversity Day -  UNESCO Global Geoparks. Youth groups districts in the Lang Son Geopark region actively participated in answering 35 multiple-choice questions about Lang Son Geopark, UNESCO Global Geoparks and International GeodiversityDay; 15 multiple-choice questions about Chi Lang Victory (October 10, 1427 – October 10, 2022) on Kahoot Software Application.

In addition, the representatives of the youth groupsfromdistricts in Lang Son Geopark presented Posters or showedthree-minute Video Clips introducing five most outstanding geological values of each locality (landscape, geomorphology, paleontological sites, fossils, caves, rivers, natural lakes, waterfalls and so on).

The Online English Forum in response to "International Geodiversity Day" took place very excitingly. As a result, the youth groups of Huu Lung and Van Quan districts won prizes after two rounds of competition (the youth group from Huu Lung district got the highest score). Posters and Video Clips will be posted on the website of Lang Son Geopark Management Board and Facebook Fanpage "Lang Son Geopark" within a period of 30 days, Poster or Video Clip withmost interactions and likes, share, comment will be rewarded.

The Forum contributes to raising awareness of the young generation in Lang Son Geopark about the importance of geological, historical and cultural values, taking pride in landscape, living environment, cultural identity, national history. At the same time, this activity meets one of  UNESCO’s Criteria for recognition of a Global Geopark “Local communities and indigenous people actively and officially participate in the operation of the Geopark, taking actions to protect the landscape where they live and preserve their cultural identity, take pride in their community and living environment; transfering knowledge, practices and management systems to the young generation”.
