What is a Geopark

       Geopark is an area with single, unified geographical and administrative boundaries, which contains a set of geo-heritages with scientific, educational, esthetic and economic values. It is also the convergence of other ​in terms of landscape, biodiversity, archeology, history, culture and society... All of these ​​are studied, evaluated, preserved, exploited and used in a sustainable way. A geopark needs to have a large area to make a significant contribution to the local socio-economic development, especially in the form of tourism development and other supporting services.

       Geopark is an "open" form of geo-heritage preservation - this is a new trend of Geosciences, which has become an issue of great interest to many countries and scientific organizations around the world and widely discussed at international conferences on geology as well as on the topic of preserving and promoting heritage values. It has been actively supported and advocated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International of Geological Sciences (IUGS) in the past two decades. A geopark aims to three specific objectives as follows:

      - Preserving geo-heritages and other ​​in the area such as cultural heritages, historical, archaeological, landscape, environmental, ecological and so on.

      - Contributing to promoting and raising public awareness about the role and value of Earth sciences, encouraging people to learn and research in Earth sciences; educating love of nature and civic responsibility in the protection and sustainable exploitation of geo-heritages, contributing to the strategy of improving people's knowledge, economic and cultural development of the locality and the country.

       - Promoting sustainable economic development activities, in harmony with preservation such as sightseeing, tourism (ecotourism, geotourism) and other supporting economic activities, creating additional income sources to local communities.
