Organize an online meeting with the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in Spain

On May 19, 2022, the Management Board of Lang Son Geopark organized an online meeting with the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in Spain.

At the meeting, chaired by Ms. Phạm Thị Hương, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Lang Son Geopark, along with the participation of members of the Management Board, representatives of support teams from districts within the Lang Son Geopark area, and collaborators within the Lang Son Geopark area, an overview of Lang Son Geopark was presented. This included the 12 key tasks outlined in the Project for the establishment, construction, and development of Lang Son Geopark for the 2021-2025 period, as well as the activities of Lang Son Geopark in 2022. The potential and strengths of building and developing Lang Son Geopark were also discussed, covering heritage, culture, geology, cuisine, and local tourist destinations. The meeting also summarized the distinctive features and typical activities of some UNESCO Global Geoparks in Spain (in English): El Hierro, Lanzarote and Chinijo Archipelago, Sobrarbe-Pirineos, Basque Coast, Molina & Alto Tajo, and shared lessons learned for Lang Son Geopark.

Representatives from the UNESCO Global Geopark Villuercas Ibores Jara introduced their geopark, typical products, scientific research and conservation projects, geotourism, educational activities, information center, international integration efforts, publicity and promotion through self-published books and magazines, as well as upcoming projects of the Villuercas Ibores Jara Geopark.

The Spanish partners highly appreciate the potential for building and developing Lang Son Geopark. They congratulate the Management Board of Lang Son Geopark for implementing activities in line with UNESCO criteria, especially in the areas of community awareness, international cooperation, and geopark construction. They believe Lang Son Geopark is moving in the right direction and has great potential to be recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark. The exchange of experiences in conservation, management, and sustainable utilization of natural resources within the Lang Son Geopark area was valuable.

The working program with the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in Spain was a great success, contributing to the introduction and promotion of Lang Son Geopark to Spanish partners, enhancing international integration, and participating in activities of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network. This aligns with UNESCO's criteria for recognizing Lang Son Geopark as a potential geopark with developed relationships with UNESCO Global Geoparks at the international level.
