Participating in the activities of the Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network.

 

Lang Son Geopark was established to develop an economic model linked to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage in a sustainable manner, develop innovative tourism products, especially geotourism products, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists to strive to achieve the province's goals which is “By 2025, making tourism an important economic sector”, and “By 2030, making it a spearhead economic sector”.

 

The establishment and development of Lang Son Geopark, aiming to build a dossier for UNESCO recognition of Lang Son Geopark as a global geopark, need to meet the criteria set by UNESCO. Among them is the criterion "Aspiring UNESCO Geoparks develop relationships/partnerships with UNESCO global geoparks at the national or international level; participating in national, regional, or international Geopark Network meetings; attending in-depth training courses on UNESCO global geoparks supported by UNESCO/Geopark Network; visiting an international UNESCO global geopark." Recently, the Lang Son Geopark Management Board has actively participated in activities of the Asia-Pacific Geopark Network to promote cooperation and connectivity with geoparks in the Asia-Pacific region, learning from sustainable local economic development experiences related to disseminating scientific knowledge to community education, ecosystem conservation, and geopark heritage conservation measures, analyzing the role of geoparks in sustainable socio-economic development, sharing geopark management experiences, and promoting geotourism activities, adaptation solutions of geoparks to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the role of women in building and developing geoparks.

 The Asia-Pacific Geopark Network organized an online meeting on the role of women in building and developing Geoparks.

The Lang Son Geopark Management Board has launched a movement to organize activities for the 3rd Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Week from April 22 to April 28, 2022, in response to Earth Day, with the theme: "Celebrating earth heritage, demonstrating resilience, boosting confidence, and strengthening networking". The purpose of the Week is to help more people understand the philosophy of Geoparks in general, UNESCO Global Geoparks, demonstrate the comprehensive strength of the geological, cultural, historical, and intangible heritage of Geoparks; local people take pride in their homeland; and enhance the motivation for sustainable development of the local community. Participating in the activities of the Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network contributes to introducing and promoting Lang Son Geopark, learning experiences in conserving, managing, and efficiently exploiting natural resources within the Geopark.
