Enhancing Collaboration for the Development of Lang Son Geopark

          Implementing Lang Son Provincial People’s Committee’s Plan No. 231/KH-UBND dated December 14, 2023, regarding the development of Lang Son Geopark in 2024. The tasks include strengthening international integration and collaboration, participating in activities of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network; Developing and implementing programs to promote Lang Son Geopark, including its tourism routes and sites; Designing and executing educational programs to raise community awareness about geological heritage and Lang Son Geopark. November 14 - 15, 2024, Lang Son Geopark Management Board organized a delegation to work with partners in Bac Ninh Province, Hanoi City and Hung Yen Province. The visit aimed to introduce and promote Lang Son Geopark to domestic and international partners and foster collaboration for its development in the upcoming time.

          The delegation conducted a field survey at the KOTO Center for Vocational Training in Tien Du District, Bac Ninh Province. In addition, he delegation met with Ms. Kelly Koch, Managing Director of KOTO Co., Ltd., and her team to discuss training sponsorships in tourism services for community-based tourism villages; Scholarships in commercial cooking, restaurant, and hotel management for students in continuing education centers in the Lang Son Geopark region; Capacity-building programs for women and the deployment of skilled experts and trainees to gain hands-on experience and provide training in commercial cooking, restaurant, and hotel management for tourism service personnel in community-based tourism villages and craft villages with tourism development potential.

          Lang Son Geopark Management Board's working group worked with the UNESCO Office in Viet Nam to discuss collaboration needs for developing Lang Son Geopark toward becoming a UNESCO Global Geopark. The discussions focused on various areas, including heritage conservation and promotion, museums, natural sciences, tourism, sustainable development projects, education, raising community awareness about heritages and the geopark, economic planning and strategies to connect Lang Son Geopark with other UNESCO natural and cultural heritage sites. Following this, the delegation worked with Mr. Johnathan Baker, Chief of UNESCO Office in Vietnam and several experts in economics, natural sciences, and strategic planning.

          The delegation worked with the Director of Vietnam Expeditions, the Director of Na Lay Adventure, the President of the Hanoi Paragliding Club, staff VietClimb and AADASIA Company in Hanoi. The parties discussed a collaborative program to develop unique geotourism products for Lang Son Geopark. Initial plans include organizing surveys and assessing the potential for geotourism products such as cave exploration, mountain sports climbing, trekking and paragliding in Lang Son Geopark in December 2024. The discussions also aimed to advance partnership agreements and implement specific collaboration initiatives afterward.

          As part of the work program, Lang Son Geopark Management Board attended the event "Cultural Colors of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups" at Greenfield School, Rung Co, Ecopark, Van Giang District, Hung Yen Province. The delegation introduced and promoted the heritage of Lang Son Geopark and promoted cooperation in developing and implementing extracurricular programs in the Lang Son Geopark area.
