Organizing a Forum on Climate Change and Solutions for Lang Son Geopark
On February 17, 2022, the Lang Son Geopark Management Board organized the Forum "Climate Change and Solutions for Lang Son Geopark" in English. The event was attended by representatives from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; members of the Lang Son Geopark Management Board; leaders, and specialists from the Department of Education and Training; Education and Training Offices of districts and city in Lang Son province, as well as English teachers and students from some high schools in the province.
At the Forum, students from schools within the Lang Son Geopark area and in Lang Son city presented 15 presentations related to climate change, specifically: an overview of climate change and its impacts, the National Target Program for Responding to Climate Change, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); the role, position, importance, and significance of environmental protection, climate change adaptation in Lang Son Geopark, assessing the current situation of climate change, environmental protection in the Lang Son Geopark area, evaluating the impact of climate change on the Tham Khuyen - Tham Hai archaeological site in Binh Gia district within the Lang Son Geopark area, solutions to enhance climate change resilience, environmental protection in the Lang Son Geopark area specifically, and in Lang Son province generally; discussing learning sites within the Lang Son Geopark.

The Lang Son Geopark Management Board summarized the outcomes of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) and Vietnam's strong commitments and responsibilities in combating climate change. Mr. Jean Verly, Director of Vietnam Sports and Entertainment Services Joint Stock Company, presented on "Mountain sports tourism associated with natural resource conservation". The forum was successfully conducted, contributing to raising awareness among the province's young generation about global issues, educating them about nature conservation, environmental protection, and proposing solutions to address climate change challenges in Lang Son Geopark. It also aimed to instill a sense of responsibility for sustainable socio-economic development in the districts within Lang Son Geopark area and the province as a whole. Furthermore, it provided opportunities for students to enhance their presentation, discussion, and negotiation skills in English, thereby improving their international integration capacity. This effort aligns with one of the criteria for UNESCO's recognition of Global Geoparks, which emphasizes “The participation of geoparks in activities related to disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and the development of education to minimize climate change and natural hazards”.
